AbstractHeterogeneous catalyst plays a dual role in the transesterification reaction owing to the advantages of separation and reusability. Recently, heterogeneous catalysts derived from renewable sources have gotten more attention. The renewable resources described include shells, bones, ashes from plant/tree, natural sources, large-scale industrial wastes, etc. Advantageously, catalysts prepared from these materials could make the biodiesel product more sustainable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective. The purpose of this work is to review some recent developments on the heterogeneous catalyst derived from renewable resource for the transesterification reaction. Furthermore, the current advances and the future perspectives of catalysts from renewable resources will be presented. Hopefully, this review will offer some perspective and guidelines of the future research and development for renewable resources derived catalysts.
